Researchers introduce PaperRouter-Agent, a training-free LLM agent that routes incoming papers into user-specific folder hierarchies in reference managers by grounding decisions in existing folder contents rather than folder names alone. The system formalizes a new task called personalized hierarchical paper routing (PHPR), treating user libraries as private folksonomies rather than fixed taxonomies. On real personal libraries, the agent improves Recall@1 from 0.39 to 0.61 and Recall@3 from 0.57 to 0.83, with especially large gains on metadata-defined organizational folders; on the public LaMP-2 benchmark it adds 9.0 macro-F1 points over a single-shot baseline.
