ModeratorLM: Role-conditioned turn-taking for multi-party voice agents with 40%+ precision gains

Researchers introduce ModeratorLM, a voice agent system that conditions turn-taking behavior on an explicitly assigned conversational role in multi-party settings, built on a streaming speech LLM. A reasoning-augmented variant adds chain-of-thought over conversational context. Evaluated on real-world meeting data and the new RolePlayConv synthetic dataset, the system achieves over 40% improvement in turn-taking precision and 70% in recall while reducing false-positive interruptions versus non-role-conditioned baselines.

LoSoNA benchmark evaluates LLM adaptation to implicit local social norms in group chats

Researchers introduce LoSoNA, a benchmark for testing whether LLM-based agents can infer and adapt to unstated local conversational norms in multi-party chat scenarios. Each scenario presents a group-chat transcript where non-subject participants implicitly demonstrate a hidden norm, followed by an elicitor turn. Eight frontier and open-weight models are evaluated under four prompting conditions; naive prompting performs poorly for most models, while explicit norm-aware prompting yields uneven gains—Gemini 3.1 Pro reaches 84.2% and Claude Fable 5 reaches 81.6%. BayLing-Duplex: Native full-duplex speech dialogue using a single autoregressive LLM

Researchers introduce BayLing-Duplex, a speech language model that achieves native full-duplex interaction — simultaneous listening and speaking — using a single autoregressive LLM with no auxiliary VAD or turn-taking module. Built by fine-tuning GLM-4-Voice on 400K samples plus a lightweight DPO stage, it reaches 92% turn-taking success and 100% interruption success on InstructS2S-Eval, and improves speech-response quality substantially over Moshi. The approach adds only special tokens to the standard vocabulary, making it portable across LLM architectures without architectural changes.

Synthetic LLM-generated conversations improve ASR training for low-resource languages

Researchers propose a pipeline that uses LLMs to generate scenario-level dialogues and TTS to synthesize multi-speaker audio, creating simulated conversational training data for ASR systems. Evaluated on the Hungarian BEA-Dialogue benchmark, a model trained on 67 hours of real plus 636 hours of synthetic data outperforms a zero-shot model trained on 2,700 hours of real Hungarian speech. ContextRL: Context-aware reinforcement learning improves grounding in agentic and multimodal LLMs

Researchers introduce ContextRL, a reinforcement learning method that trains LLMs to select the context that supports a given query-answer pair from two highly similar candidates, rather than supervising only final answers. The approach constructs contrastive context pairs in two domains: coding agent trajectories (1k pairs) and multimodal image pairs (7k pairs). ContextRL achieves +2.2% average gains over standard GRPO on 5 long-horizon benchmarks and +1.8% across 12 visual QA benchmarks, with ablations showing the gains stem from the context-selection objective rather than the contrastive data alone.

Role-Agent: Bootstrapping LLM Agents via Dual-Role Evolution

Role-Agent is a new framework that uses a single LLM simultaneously as both agent and environment, enabling self-bootstrapped co-evolution without external environment feedback. The system has two components: World-In-Agent (WIA), which uses predicted vs. actual state alignment as a process reward, and Agent-In-World (AIW), which reshapes training data by retrieving tasks with similar failure patterns. Experiments across multiple benchmarks show an average performance gain of over 4% over strong baselines. Counterfactual context revision framework for auditing LLM-based stance simulation in online discussions

Researchers introduce a counterfactual context revision framework to audit how LLMs simulate individual users' stances in online discussions. By applying controlled text-only and multimodal (meme-based) revisions to conversational contexts, they measure how readily simulated stances shift in response to semantically independent changes. Canonical-Context On-Policy Distillation (CCOPD) for Multi-Turn LLM Consistency

This paper identifies 'self-anchored drift' as a key failure mode in multi-turn LLMs: when information is revealed incrementally across turns, models produce unsupported assumptions that distort final answers, even when the total evidence is identical to a single-prompt setting. The authors propose Canonical-Context On-Policy Distillation (CCOPD), which trains a student model on incremental multi-turn conversations to match the output distribution of a frozen teacher conditioned on the full clean prompt. Trained only on math conversations, CCOPD achieves a 32% average relative improvement on multi-turn (RAW-SHARDED) tasks and generalizes zero-shot to five out-of-domain task families while preserving single-prompt performance.
